It is known that the gene expression networks have different genetic components, as determined by cell type. To know how many and what kinds of fundamental gene components are involved, we need to dissect networks into minimal functional units of genes, or "gene modules".
This software enables us to exhaustively mine for common gene modules, not in only cell types, but in any large-scale and promiscuous gene expression database, with rapid calculation and optimal accuracy. It is possible, for example, to do the same thing as the "digital differential display" used to find the four genes necessary to create iPS cells, in every type of cell at high speed. This method will be indispensable for finding gene switches of interest in regenerative medicine research in the future.
